Required Literature and supplies for A New World of Adventure

At the beginning of each section of A New World of Adventure, you will the find the book lists that will help you focus on the unit themes. The required list includes books you must have in order to complete this unit study successfully.

REQUIRED LITERATURE (listed in unit order):

  • The Holy Bible
  • Call it Courage, by Armstrong Sperry
  • Island of the Blue Dolphins, by Scott O'Dell
  • Misty of Chincoteague, by Marguerite Henry
  • Little Pilgrim's Progress, by Helen L. Taylor (adapted from John Bunyan's classic)
  • Amos Fortune: Free Man, by Elizabeth Yates
  • Calico Captive, by Elizabeth George Speare
  • Biography of Benjamin Franklin (your choice of book, as long as it is a biography of Franklin)
  • The Sign of the Beaver, by Elizabeth George Speare
  • Johnny Tremain, by Esther Forbes
  • Toliver's Secret, by Esther Wood Brady
  • Biography of George Washington (your choice of book, as long as it is a biography of Washington)
  • The Incredible Journey, by Sheila Burnford

The "suggested books" lists at the beginning of each unit include those that you might want to try to find at your own library in order to have a well-rounded study. The purpose of this list is to give you ideas about which books you might choose, NOT to limit you to this list! These books are simply those that I found on my library shelves that applied to the unit themes. Your library may have books that are equally appropriate – or better! Choose the books that you and your family will enjoy and be able to use as learning tools!

These Literature books are not available through Learning Adventures. However, you may purchase them separately through Amazon.com by clicking on the links below. We receive credit for all purchases made from these links.
